Sometimes life writes its own script — a personal message

Dear friends, theatre audiences and everyone who has accompanied me along the way,

Sometimes life writes its own script — and unfortunately forgets to ask whether you agree with the casting.

After an accident, I fractured my upper thigh bone near the hip and needed urgent surgery. Thankfully, the operation went well, and I am now back home. Ahead of me are physiotherapy, six weeks on crutches, and an exercise in which I still have room for improvement: patience.

It is particularly difficult to accept that I cannot be on stage for the premiere of Florian Zeller’s Der Sohn (The Son) on 24 October in Itzehoe, or for the first tour block. I had been looking forward to this role and to meeting audiences. I deeply regret being unable to join the ensemble at this moment.

My heartfelt thanks go to Matthias Schloo, who is stepping in at such short notice, and to all my colleagues preparing the premiere under these unusual circumstances. I wish you a wonderful opening, courage, solidarity and, above all, the joy of performing together.

To our audiences: the performances are going ahead. I hope you will welcome the ensemble and my colleague with the same warmth and openness you would have shown me.

Thank you from the heart for your messages, calls and wishes for my recovery. Knowing how many people are thinking of me means a great deal.

For now, I am concentrating on what matters most: getting well, rebuilding my strength and looking ahead, one step at a time. I will share reliable news about my return as soon as I can.

My love of the stage remains. For the moment, my crutches have taken on the supporting role.

Take good care of yourselves.

With love,
Hardy Krüger Jr.
